Julian Treasure speaks to Joe Cabral, the City of Lancaster’s Communications manager, for whom The Sound Agency created generative sounds for the boulevard. They discuss the effects the sounds are having – particularly on the city’s crime rate – and get feedback from the locals.
Harrods' Toy Kingdom, which opened in July 2012, is the first retail space ever to feature generative soundscapes, played by our Ambifier™ system, as well as localised features. The result is a magical experience for children and parents alike. We have also created tailored sound for the International Designer Women’s Rooms and the entire Children’s Wear department. The Sound Agency recently beat stiff international competition to claim the 2012 Audio Branding Award for its work in Harrods’ Toy Kingdom.
Because of poor acoustics, students in classrooms miss 50 percent of what their teachers say and patients in hospitals have trouble sleeping because they continually feel stressed. The Sound Agency chairman, Julian Treasure, sounds a call to action for designers to pay attention to the “invisible architecture” of sound.
