1. Andrea had a very special dance with some very close family and friends at her wedding. Her father passed away so her brother recored "butterfly kisses" and she danced with with all of them during her Father and Daughter dance. it was a truly touching moment not a dry eye in the house.
Her dad, Mark, died earlier in the year from pancreatic cancer. Andrea's first dance is with Mark's father, followed by her brother Luke, then brother Nick and finally her new father-in-law Scott.

  2. A little bit about Amanda + Jacob...

If there are two words to describe Amanda & Jacob it would have to be fun and inspiring! It was clearly evident that these two were meant for each other. We were lucky enough to be welcomed into the inner circle on their very emotional and special day. After spending a day with them we quickly understood the passion they have for life and each other. The path they traveled that eventually led them to find each other is a story everyone should have the privilege to hear. Amanda & Jacob, you inspired us from the second we showed up at your door to the emotional sparkler lit first dance. You encouraged us to find the story in your day, and you were gracious enough to share it with us. This is the story of Amanda + Jacob....

A little bit about the Short Feature...

We are very excited to post this wedding feature of Amanda & Jacob for a number a reasons. First, a little bit of backstory to set the stage. Amanda contacted us to see if we could film her wedding. We met with her (as we do with all our clients) at our favorite coffee shop to see what her day was going to look like and catch her vision for the day.

Being in the music industry and creative world, Amanda was open to hearing about a product we were wanting to test pilot and we thought she would appreciate. We had recently challenged ourselves to create more story driven products for our clients and this was the perfect opportunity to "try out" this concept. Needless to say, we presented her with the idea and she was thrilled about it. Instead of shooting and editing a full linear ceremony & reception with speeches, we agreed to shoot and create a very short film/story instead. The product would contain a Short Film Feature, Behind the Scenes Footage, and a Trailer. The film you see here is the Short Film Feature portion...

We are eagerly awaiting feedback to see if this is something that more couples would like and are interested in! Please let us know what you think, it's something that confirms we are in the right direction!

  3. Shot with a Sony a77 and Canon 7D. (a77 is all bride prep, groom reaction while watching video, groom face during ceremony, side shot during first look and all reception except one shot during their intro) Matching the two cams was a little challenging but as you can see the a77 holds up quite nicely against Canon DSLRs

All in all, a major challenge to edit as every single thing that could possibly go wrong from a technical standpoint did.
The biggest of these things is I screwed the pooch big time on the H4 for reception audio. I did not set it right and had nothing usable except the audio my onboard mic. I don't normally take care of audio as I am usually editing the same day edit or shooting photos. I didn't bring redundant audio stuff as it was last minute destination wedding and i packed real light. Not an excuse, it's just what happened.

With the exception of the grand entrance, I shot all of the reception by myself and did not have the proper lighting gear I would normally carry with me nor the different angles as it was all with one cam. And the one led light i did have ran out of battery right in the middle of the groomsmen doing their dance thing.

However, all this being said, the content is there with this one regardless of the technical knit picks. I am not going to not put the speeches in because they don't sound perfect regardless whether the perfectionist in me cringes a bit.

  4. LATEST UPDATES - 2012 international educational schedule will be constantly updated in the upcoming months (bottom of post). thank you.

    oh the same day edit.

how i reluctantly i must admit that being a slow editor, i once hated being in charge of these things.

to have to wake up at 5 am on a weekend to work more hours then two consecutive weekday work days; knowing the next time i'll get to see my bed is 3 am.

the pressure of having to produce a piece of fine art in a short (aka. unreasonable) amount of time; under the extreme scrutiny of production house standards.

the task to document, stylize, and emote all the important events of a once in a lifetime event; reinterpreted under a vision that is deemed not only fit by myself, but of course the couple as well.

but that final reward of having the newly married couple and about 500 people live and breathe your work in those few minutes makes it all worthwhile.

almost within seconds after the same day edit began, i couldn't help but feel that magic as i could hear people whispering 'this is amazing' and was giggling hearing 'that was better then a real tim hortons commercial'. i felt my heart begin to pound uncontrollably as i forgot what it had felt like to join in the excitement with the crowd...

    hello to the 2011 season.

TECHNICAL + PRODUCTION TIDBITS for my industry friends and colleagues.

shot with my brothers freshsox/konrad czystowski + the boy wonder/mark klassen.

    cameras used:

3 Canon 5dmkii's for most of the day
2 Canon 7ds for the ceremony bride and groom angles; 1 more more 5d mike during the ceremony

everything shot in 24p mode, unless I was running steadicam where i would over crank my footage shooting everything in 30p using my 30p -> 24p compressor setting to match the tone of the song. i think my trusty + brilliant friend troy turgano for that suggestion as he helped me choose this song for the steph + chi.

COLOR CORRECTION was via combination of fcp rgb balance, 2-way + 3-way colour corrector + newbluefx + modified mb filters.

all cameras use custom ultra flat profiles we design for our 5ds that are custom mated to the specific glass types we use (ie. zeiss vs canon)

for my 'slower' lenses in lower light setttings (ie. f 2.8's); i employ the Cinestyle custom profile. This profile can extend the dynamic range in lower light conditions, but the image is horribly flat straight out of the camera and requires a very strong understanding of colour theory and cleanup ability to make the image feel warm and rich in tone, color and contrast.

matching our cameras took some where with konrad shooting the cleanest out of all 3 of us for most of the day.

    -zeiss 35/2 zf,
-zeiss 50 1.4 zf - brideal preps workhorse
-zeiss 21/2.8 zf - steadicam pilot
    -zeiss makro 100/2

    -canon 50/1.2 L,
    -canon 24/1.4 L II

    -cinevate atlas 30,
-manfrotto monopod 561hdv - best overall value for your money
    -steadicam pilot
-additional stabilization in post provided my grateful sponsor NEWBLUE FX stabilizer. it is quicker, faster, more intuitive to use and more cost effective then all the competitors in the image stabilization software market.

this film is the same day edit from last saturday evening; i'll be posting a the reactions from the couple for the sde before the weekend, in addition to posting a few more weddings from last season as they're are some hidden gems worth sharing.

    clean, simple, beautiful.

this is my approach this season.

    thank you for watching.

  5. Lisa + Shaun said 'I Do' on a scorching Perth day in an immaculately styled ceremony at the Sunken Gardens. Featuring the most wonderful collection of rickety accessories and real-life vintage details, the days stylish old-world theme flowed over into an INCREDIBLE picnic, a vintage tram to relocate in, shoots at incredible old Fremantle locations, and a crazy 'Irish-meets-Australian' shindig at local treasure house - the Moore's building. Cue mad Irish dancing and wild traditions late into the night and you'll agree that this one's definitely a keeper...
