1. Sofia Walker was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand mother and my great aunt.
At family gatherings she always told stories of San Diego and of her (our) family history. Everyone who knew Sofia saw a slice of kindness that was shared at her memorial. We miss her greatly...

Sofia Ruiz de Walker is the author of "Closed Patios", a story of love between a young mexican girl and a young "Americano" man during the early years in San Diego history and the conflicted families on both sides. It's an engaging and insightful story should you be fortunate enough to get a copy!

I put this shortened version of Sofia's Memories together for her great-grand niece, Katie Newman for a school project.

  2. When I was a kid everyone called her "Mom", and I mean everyone! Grandma, Izzy, had 8 children and at least 15 grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren...

Grandma's family sent us some of her ashes to sprinkle on her mother's, Belen, gravesite. It was a touching ceremony to celebrate her life.

Among the family and guests there, her sisters, Catalina and Sofia were there to say goodbye. Sadly, Sofia passed away two months later...

We miss grandma, Izzy, Mom, sooo much...
    God Bless her...
