  2. Issue 20 marks 5 years of UPPERCASE magazine! This is an amazing feat considering that we are a small publication with little or no advertising, fully supported by our readers and subscribers. With your support, we look forward to many more creative years ahead. Thank you.

The main theme throughout this issue is “broadcasting”. My broad interpretation of this term includes the sharing of ideas graphically and publicly through posters, social media and public art and also encompasses amateur radio, graphic novels and collecting vintage advertising posters. To round out the issue, haberdashery, hat-making and a love of sewing notions is a pretty and crafty thread of content throughout.

Here’s to a creative and curious new year! Make it count!

  5. Jason Scott: "Where are the Files?", December 4, 2012, Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart.
The talk was part of the lecture series "Do You Believe in Users?" of the pathway New Media at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany. merz-akademie.de

"And what happened in the last decade or so, is that an awful lot of computer history is in danger. A lot of it has been deleted. In fact, if you step back and look at it, the loss of data has moved to epidemic proportions. I use the term epidemic specifically here; I mean that there is a mental condition to accept the loss of data as the price of doing business with computers. And beyond that, the expectation that data will be lost, and the spreading of this idea to the point that data loss becomes no big thing."
