Satan is Real
Chicks on Speed & Ragnar Kjartansson
'Musical performances are a central part of Kjartansson’s works. The structural moment of repetition, loops and continuity, duration and endurance that he employs can also be found within the coordinates of Blues music. After sundown, Ragnar Kjartansson, accompanied by his guitar, will present the tired, weary Lopudians with some heartfelt Blues and much sad, sad music, and will later be joined by Chicks on Speed, aka the Ramblin’ Soulful Sisters, for an improvised session of a more upbeat nature.'
The unstoppable Chicks on Speed (Alex Murray-Leslie and Melissa Logan), joined by Melbourne electro drummer Erica Lewis, the lycra ladies, Billi Lime and Sydney artists Cat Jones and Tina Havelock Stevens went full-throttle at JAM-arrama on the sculpture terrace of Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia on 28th February, 2014. Chicks on Speed curated the JAM-arrama which , featured Artists, interactive music technologists, composers and performers, all colliding after dark to jam at the MCA to a full house, bringing technology, people and music together in an explosion of movement, colour and sound.
Artists performing at JAMarrama included: Kaffe Matthews, Guy Ben-Ari from SymbioticA, Andrew Bluff, Tina Havlock Stevens, Kingpins, the Lycra Ladies, Bert Bongers, Creativity and Cognition Studios, Andrew Johnston, Alexandra Murray-Leslie / Sam Ferguson, Mary Mainsbridge, Ernest Edmonds, Dolci & Kabana, Jon Drummond, Donna Hewitt, Alon Ilsar, Linda Walsh, Jaan Von Rochow, Jonathon Miller to name but a few.
The evening also featured the Reactable from Björk’s 2007 world tour and the legendary film Elektro Moskva a documentary on Russian pioneering inventions of new electronic music instruments in the soviet system, 'On a western device, you push a button and get a result. On a Soviet instrument, you push a button and get something’.
This electrifying musical instrument experience ended with one massive interactive jam session on the Sculpture Terrace with Chicks on Speed and friends and this video is an artefact of the interactive happenings.
