Graduate thesis project of Hongik university digital media design department.
In Korean society heavy drinking is a social convention. For many working people in Korea life is rigidly structured, and alcohol provides a regular means of escape.
When we drink socially we may notice the influence of overdrinking on others more than on ourselves. The “Getting Drunk” project is a commentary on social drinking and an attempt to visualize the effects of overdrinking.
The project is comprised of a table with four placemats for four glasses of Soju. As the glasses are filled with drink they affect the image of the participator, which is captured in real-time using a webcam.
Each glass controls a different distortion filter, and the various combinations of the four filters create a variety of amusing yet condemnatory reflections.
