Spent 3 weeks in Nepal and one week was spent on trekking. I hiked to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and along the way I met some amazing people. ABC is around 4130m high, but we wanted to go where other people don't really go to, so we kept climbing and went to around 5000m high and slid down the mountain. This was an awesome experience and I am definitely going to try to conquer Everest Base Camp the next time I go to Nepal. We didn't need a guide or a porter for this trek. Just us 3 guys and our backpacks. If you got any questions or any feedback, please feel free to give me a comment :) Hope you Enjoy it!
Besisahar to Jomsom. Over 150 km.’s on foot and more for acclimatization at Ice Lake through Manang. 5416 m elevation via Thorong La Pass.
No cell phone. No guide. No porter. No horses. No insurance… No worries.
The days are long with sweat drenched backs and aching feet, but the nights are peaceful with smoke settling in the quiet, empty air to soften the dusk- involuntarily gazing onwards and upwards to what awaits at dawn and what results by next moon.
Second morning completely alone confirms my worst introspective fears: I am unable to retreat or forfeit from a challenge even in the event of my demise. Faced with the potential of bitter defeat upon a waist high river leading off the rock face cliff of the main trail: “Leap before you look, no turning back… whatever comes- comes.” Life is but a dream when a steep, rough road is all you’ve seen.
Finding yourself in the most natural of human conditions up against the cold, hard wall-there is nothing to help you but your own feet, hands and mind. The path forward leads to more unknown abyss and all you can culminate for certain is that what lies behind you is gone forever and all you will ever have any control over is the task at hand. This desolate reality reveals that what may have been most precious is something far past, left behind, alone on the path.
