These are run-of-the-mill days in the life of Bobo Benso. A certain feeling of uneasiness is taking over him. He fails to understand why. He blames i ton the failure of a love story . Star, his girl, who is much younger, has just left him. She said she wants to give her life new meaning and find out what is going on. This is an important moment of transformation in her life . Bobo takes refuge in continued complaints and long conversations with Carlos , one of his best friends. He goes to the cinema, drives around Barcelona by night with him and tries to involve his friend pushing him to reflect with him, looking for the answer in some sentence, a sense of relief which he himself doesn`t offer his friend.
Carlos just invites him to reflect, but Bobo has a problem: he doesn´t listen. He has probably never known how to listen. He always speaks . And Bobo speaks, a lot. Above all, in the conferences he has in the Italian Institute, where he works as a consultant and deputy director, as organizer of a film festival in Barcelona, " The eyes of children ", which has reached its seventh edition.
Bobo is a forty-year-old man , intellectual, with a good position. He has just one problem. That he imagines things . His imagination even makes him have strange visions of a world that he seemed to have left some time ago: the world of childhood .
Bobo has a particular obsession. Often, and suddenly, strange images come over him which bring back that imaginary friend he saw as a child and whom together with he spent so many moments , giving it life again , in flesh and blood .
One night, after being very drunk, Carlos takes him home and when he puts him on the bed to rest , Bobo reveals the secret that has tormented him forever : "Rocco "
That is the name of his imaginary friend , who pronounced for the first time in years , with these words : " ...perhaps it would be better if he had lived my life! "
From that moment, after this confession to his friend and to himself, the impossible happens.
The next day, after his latest vision -in which he finds Rocco in the long hallway of a home inspired by dreams or nightmares , Bobo wakes up to find his home changed and occupied by someone else . A stranger. Bobo does not understand what is happening. But neither does the stranger. They look at each other without having the slightest idea of who the other is.
This is the beginning of a journey that will lead to Bobo to go through the hell of an unknown world. As a modern Orpheus, he will go through an inner desert, and emerge having acquired a new way of seeing the world , allowing him to have a deeper understanding of himself.
From this standpoint he can ask himself something which he had never even thought about before: Was the world , its affections, ideas and wishes elements which really represented him or were they just a mask which chased away his fears, leaving his real person distanced, latent and unknown?
