1. This dynamic proximity-based radio uses the benefits of hyperlocality to connect people together through a shared like of music. This concept allows for more discrete and informal communication while also actively engaging in the public domain. People can instantly tune into the community radio around them, and experience a whole other level of social interaction that is often unheard in public space.

  2. Blind Duck Hunt is an exploration into spatial sound and the future connectivity of devices. It’s a new take on the classic Nintendo game “Duck Hunt”, where a duck flies across the television and you aim and shoot with a gun controller. In our version, the screen is substituted with a sound booth mapped in four channels to create a three dimensional soundscape, while the gun is replaced with a mobile phone. With ducks creeping up from behind, keep your ears open and gun close.

    The gun is made to hold any mobile device running the Duck Hunt web app. The phone’s gyroscope provides direction data, while the gun trigger is connected mechanically to tap the screen on press. Through the flexibility of Spacebrew, multiple guns can be hooked up simultaneously with ease. Data is sent through a Processing app which hosts the game logic. From here, the app communicates to two computers running Pure Data to map the sounds of ambience, ducks and gunshots.

    Components: 1 constructed sound cylinder, 4 speakers, 3 laptops, 1 mobile phone app, and 1 gun complete with conductive tape.

  3. SUVA is a responsive indoor home device that responds to changes in temperature, humidity and dust levels to help maintain a comfortable environment in the home. It is modular, scalable and also portable to be able to fluidly move between rooms. Upon any change in environment, the corresponding petals will move away from its neutral centre position, denoting an imbalance in the air qualities measured. This way, one is brought to notice the change and is also called to take action by executing the advice imprinted on the device at each ascending air quality level.

    Components: 3 sensors, 1 servo motor, 2 linear potentiometers, 1 Arduino Uno.

A network of your closest friends is notified on your spending activities to provide encouragement along the way. If you stay within your weekly budget, you’re rewarded with the accumulated budget for acquiring your goal and with other discounts and rewards at your favorite locations.
