Animation Directed & Storyboarded & Co-Designed by Brian O'Connell. All totaled we did about a half-hour of animation for David Grubin's, Emmy-nominated, two-hour film for PBS. This piece won the ASIFA East award for Best Design for commercial films over two minutes in 2010. Richard Gere narrated the live action and Blair Brown narrated the animation. Interviewees include The Dalai Lama, the poet W.S. Merwin, Professor Robert Thurman & other Buddhists. Funding came from the NEH.
Animation directed & storyboarded by Brian O'Connell for an episode of the National Geographic Television 'Explorer' series entitled 'Moment of Death', which investigates the question: 'When is the actual moment of death?' This sequence goes back to the French Revolution to find out how long a severed head stays alive after the guillotine comes down. Pretty gruesome, and yet you still want to know, don't you?

This sequence lays out an ingenious solution for delivering toxins to attack only the cancer cells while leaving the healthy cells alone. Brian received an Emmy nomination for Best Art Direction for his work on this series.
