mel·an·chol·y - ˈmelənˌkälē/
: suggestive or expressive of sadness or depression of mind or spirit.
Melancholy is a dream sequence capturing the concept of those dreams or nightmares upon waking, where you feel extreme sadness and confusion. I am intrigued by the fact that we dream - images travel through our consciousness as we sleep and when we awake try to understand what it means, sometimes relating to our reality in a more understanding way or isolated, independent within itself; a inner existence. ¬¬
“I began to understand that suffering and disappointments and melancholy are there not to vex us or cheapen us or deprive us of our dignity, but to mature and transfigure us.”
― Hermann Hesse
