THE GREED GAME by First Productions – (Kelan McQuinn, Matt Patten and Eka Eyoh).
A compelling story of a heist gone wrong and the consequence of choosing greed over loyalty.
DES 176: Introduction to Digital Narrative is a foundation level Entertainment Design class. Students are introduced to the principles of visual storytelling primarily through the process of creating storyboards and concepts for animations, films and comics.
The final project is to create an animatic or what’s often referred to as a “story reel” which is basically a series of storyboards set to time. These animatics are not meant to be polished animations but are a rough designs or first visual drafts of a film or animation. Animatics allows artists to make decisions based what’s working and what’s not and explore changes before time consuming animation takes place or expensive film crews are brought in during production.
Students had the option of adapting an existing story or writing their own. In this case, the group chose to write their own story.
From Laura: In my Digital Cinema class, we were required to make a thirty second to two minute short film based on a famous Baroque painting. I chose "Girl With A Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer. I was hoping to touch on the intimate mysteriousness of the painting. No one is completely sure of who she is, aside from a Dutch worker. I think the painting is beautiful, and I intended to relay that aspect of the painting in my short film. Enjoy.
In January of 2014 I took a Fiction into Film course in London. We were required to choose a classic English literature and adapt a short film based on that text. My group choose Bram Stoker's Dracula and based the film on Chapter 13, Mina's Journal.
