This show illustrates the gentle changing light on the west coast. Rarely is the light harsh. The moist atmosphere seems to envelope nature and soften the depth of space in the landscape. Shadows are softer and overall the color schemes tend to be mostly cool. I like the sense of mystery that this atmospheric light gives - enticing the viewer to walk into the painting.
This series of paintings are a visceral interpretation of landscape themes. Part realism and part intuitive "inner knowing". After painting from reference for years, I am now painting more from the inside out.
Most of this work is painted not with brushes, but with my hands.
