  2. New on the scene, Jules is Sea of Bees. Already striking in her own right, she's got a wispy weird Bjork/Sia thing going on. She's only now making her first recordings. This was recorded live at The Hangar in Sacramento for Luxury Wafers. Can't wait to hear what else this amazing young woman comes out with!

  3. Whether you know it or not, you've been listening to violinist Daniel Hart for many years now. Performing with The Polyphonic Spree, St Vincent, John Vanderslice and the Rosebuds to name but a few, Daniel has been traveling the world, his experience ultimately becoming the inspiration for his first solo record ‘The Orientalist’. Almost reluctantly, Daniel Hart has shuffled his way into his rightful place in the spotlight with his heart on his sleeve, violin in hand and an offering of the most beautifully arranged and catchy pop songs.

We caught up with him after his first solo tour to China (an appropriate kick off for touring 'The Orientalist'!) to capture a few live tracks from the album brought to life in a minimalist form with only Daniel's violin and a drum machine. The live version of ‘Achilles Heart’ is captivating, but the delicately plucked arrangement on the album version is something quite spectacular that will slice right through your outer layers upon first listen. The Orientalist is equal parts love-at-first-listen and hidden gems, almost passed over on first listen, but unmistakable and quite moving upon third and forth listen.

However, as is often the case, songwriting is laid bare in the more minimalist performance revealing its simplicity, beauty and strengths. In this case, 'O Sangeeta’ is a gorgeous live version and as captivating in this form as the album recording.
