D&D Encounters Storm Over Neverwinter - Session 7 Recap
written by Giaco Furino
You weren't even supposed to make it this far, you know? Chartilifax, that giant green dragon who spit madness and poison at you and your friends, was supposed to take care of you. He was supposed to chew you up and spit you out! But you sent him howling into the storm-soaked night, and you made it to the second floor of the Cathedral at Helm's Hold.
But as you and your compatriots stepped onto the second floor a great boom of thunder shook the cathedral. The windows exploded inward from the pressure of the storm as bolts of lightning struck the group. That lightning, sparkling and zapping against the ground, slowly began to take shape. Soon, astonishing though it was to behold, humanoid elemental surges of energy began wandering around the room.
New to this world, they didn't bother with the adventurers until the heroes got too close. Then they unleashed their crackling fury! After a tough battle and a few singed hairs, the heroes vanquished their foes and climbed the steps to the third level. There, out on the roof in the storm, awaits Elden Vargas and his deranged wife.
Nothing will end his love for her, not even a group of meddling heroes!
The acrid smell of smoke lingers in the evening air as the skies open and unleash buckets of rain in a torrential downpour. The screams and cries of townsfolk ring out amidst the blasts of the guards' horns, the cracks of lightning, and the rumbles of thunder. Chaos erupts around the city of Neverwinter. The mad and marked are lashing out! The general population devolves into looters, thieves, and thugs. Who can help our party of adventurers make headway in this chaos?
A small girl, a street urchin, one of the leaders of the Little Rats. With her connections and shortcuts through the city she spirits our adventurers away from chaos as best she can... for a price. After interacting with looters, a wild carriage, and a hurt gang member, the adventurers track a group of purposeful-looking cultists to a fine house in the wealthy district.
The cultists break down the front door and storm in. As the group listens in from outside, they learn that the cultists have broken into and confronted Elden Vargas, a leading merchant. He threatens them, waving his spear at them, but they pounce and our stalwart adventurers jump in to help.
After a tense battle, Elden thanks the adventurers for saving his life. He explains that he was once a war wizard in Corymyr, and the Ashmadai want him dead. He means to rescue his wife from her captivity in Helm's Hold (an asylum for those driven mad by malevolent magic) and, if the adventurers help, he may be able to find a cure for all those afflicted with this madness.
So rest up, adventurers, because it's time to head into the eye of the storm. With all those marked with the sign of Asmodeus being sent to Helm's Hold there's lots of trouble brewing at the asylum.

D&D Encounters : Storm Over Neverwinter - Session 1 Recap
Heavy rain dashed against the windows of the Moonstone Mask. Our adventurers found themselves in the city of Neverwinter sheltering themselves from the rain. The Moonstone Mask, built on top of a floating earth mote, bobbed and floated in the heavy wind. The inn was packed with townsfolk, soldiers, and travelers. The adventurers met many interesting figures at the inn, including a love-lorn drunken dwarf, a bawdy rumor mongering halfling, and the merchant Lady Nidris. As the adventurers mingle with the crowd they pick up all types of important information about the city as it currently stands.
Locals have been kidnapped from their homes, their beds, the middle of the street. After going missing for days they always return with a strange branding on their bodies. Other than the mark, there's seems to be no sign of foul play. But these locals, perhaps your brother, or best friend, or father, come back changed. Prone to fits of anger, and with a thousand yard stare, they float on with their lives without any memory of their capture.
And then there much talk of the storm looming on the horizon...
While talking, drinking, and eating in the Moonstone Mask, a group of cloaked strangers came in from the rain. While shaking off their wet cloaks the adventurers got a bad feeling about them. Soon, their hesitation was rewarded as the cloaked strangers threw back their hoods. Some revealed wild masks, others revealed circus-like costumes, while others simply looked deranged. They shouted "For Asmodeus!" and raised clubs branded with the same markings as the kidnapped. After striking down an innocent civilian, the room erupted into chaos and battle.
After a daring bout with the maniacs in cloaks, some of which ended in a rooftop chase to save Lady Nidris, the adventurers triumphed. But who were these Asmodeus cultists? Where are they hiding? Why are they kidnapping people and causing chaos in the city? All will be revealed if you continue adventuring with us!
