This is the trailer for the upcoming International All-Energy Fair and Conference "Energy Europe" in Copenhagen. Bella Center together with Kromrey Kommunikation contacted the team of my friends up at "bewegtbild" flensburg, who then asked me in.
The use of futuristic architecture from the city of the venue, copenhagen, pictures a potential world of tomorrow and locates the viewer. We collected illustrations of energy-use and synonyms for energy itself - like reflections, sun cast or trains and busses. To our surprise, most of the buildings were just a foodwalk or some trainstops away from were we stayed. The need of having to change hotels gave us the chance to find different interesting eagle eye perspectives.
We created a still-image-like foundation that is almost silent in the use of movement. We then aggressively layered sharp, triangled shapes (derived from the windows of Bella Center), inter cut with speed ramps (to contrast the silence of our foundation), and jumped on existing movements within the shots to playfully trigger motion design elements.
As a designer, I am keen on understanding a corporate design in deep to be able to interpret it for different media and formats. As a creative, I see the need to impact and exite the viewer to create memorable moments of communication. That may require to exeed the boundaries of a corporate design - that we defenitely did in this case with that massive use of red and oversized typography.
Can't wait to see how this impacts on us and visitors when experiencing on the 12m (40 feet) wide LED screen at the entrance of the fair.
My best film job since some time - since I am quite busy as a photographer. And to my pleasure, again as a team with my Coen-brother-in-spirit Joachim Freitag, who also is responsable for nicely executing the post.
This is the trailer for the upcoming 9th shortfilmfestival "Flensburger Kurzfilmtage / Tricky" in Flensburg / northern Germany. Filmed in one day on a canon 5D together with Joachim Freitag.
Flensburg is a mid-to-small-size town in the north of Germany, situated around a fjord, next to the baltic sea and the border to Danmark.
If you live here, especially as a teenager or young adult, you will probably like it - but you will not think it is cool. So we thought that it could be nice for the people coming to the festival to experience Flensburg in a new way - to make Flensburg look kind of urban, rotten, strange and cool - but still Flensburg.
Joachim and I got to know each other through a strange phone call in which I boldly claimed to be After Effects god, not knowing that I am so much not - as he definitely is! Being close friends since then we never had the chance to work together on a film project, which is strange, since we always felt that we would be the perfect team.
This is our first film together. As it turns out, we were right. He is the fallback on everything I can do better and vice versa. So we always had two DOPs on the set and two motion artists in the post, and we knew when it was better to rely on the opinion of the other for the sake of the better output in the film.
There is more to come from this team in the future - trust us :-)
