  3. This is a workflow that uses a specialized point position shader to create a perfect point cloud of your 3D scene in After Effects. You will need Trapcode Form for this to work. I am using Cinema4D, but any 3D application should be able to create a shader like this.

    - tested in R12 and R13, but should work fine in older versions

    - Only tested with Form 2 on After Effects CS5. May not work with older versions of Form, but should work with AE CS3 and newer.

    This is very much a work in progress, so please leave feedback on how you use it, or any ways in which it could be improved. The crazier the better!

    NOTE: If you're having trouble getting it to work correctly, make sure your AE bit depth is set to 16bit. I forgot to make that clear in the video.

  5. In this spot for Kia, our task was to create the wall of keyboard keys that was behind the car. All motion graphics, design and VFX work completed by a team of artists at The Mill.

    The process was a long one as the pipeline was unusually large; animation would come from our motion graphics department, be pre-processed in Nuke and fed into our Houdini set up, which piped out the keyboard keys as points, onto which we would instance geometry inside Maya for rendering in Arnold.

    Several complications arose during the project, the main one being that of how we bed the car into the new background. Since we would see the reflection of the keys in the car paint, it was necessary to have an accurate CAD model of the car. However, Kia wouldn't release this, so we were forced to model up the four varieties of car by hand, which proved to be a lengthy task.
