  2. Episode 2 in the Microsoft "Webcast Magic" campaign I directed and edited for Seattle's GLG agency. (See ep 1 "The Pitch" for full description. vimeo.com/7689598 )

Very often when you work on a corporate video, even if they want to cast professional actors in many parts, there's a drive to get a real person from the company in the video. Microsoft gave us a few choices of their real Webcast presenters, and I cast Wally Mead. He was a pleasure to work with and in the end, he played himself very naturally (which can be a challenge for non-actors). It worked well that he was the straight-man in a crazy world.

The rest of the cast (of this video and the series as a whole) is a great cross-section of some of the superb and underutilized acting talent in Seattle.

    Director, Editor: Douglas Horn
    Writer: Matt Smith
    Agency: Garrigan Lyman Group
    CD: Bryan Cummings
    Producer: Ali Fiorito
    Camera: Kyle Carver

Cast: Wally Mead, Andrew McKaige, Jessi Badami, George Catalano, Pamela Woon, Jason Adkins, Mary Kae Irvin

  3. The Webcast Magic big finale. (See ep 1 "The Pitch" for full description. vimeo.com/7689598 )

I really enjoyed this project as a director and editor. You know the old saw about how every film is made three times...well it was a great experience for me to get to make it the second and third time. It's kind of odd for me not to write a project, after writing so many, but it's a good reminder of what can be created on the set or in the editing bay.

The agency scripts were locked on this campaign, but I worked up an improvised 'bit' at the end of each video with the actors and shot them on the hunch that they'd be a nice comedic button. The other "writer's touch" I got to add on this video was the burly grip (played by John Kelleher) wiping away a tear at Wally's touching performance. Little stuff, but fun. I guess people liked them, because they stayed in the final versions.
