1. These Douroucoulli, or Night Monkeys, were filmed at Edinburgh Zoo. I want to capture sleeping animals as I feel it is a very intimate moment.

  2. I have been spending time at Edinburgh Zoo making videos of animals staring directly at the camera. Some animals 'work' better than others, and the big cats especially really have a presence (if slightly menacing) and spark some kind of instinctual reaction from within when they look at you. I want to make people feel this way when they see my videos.

  3. This is a family of Night Monkeys, filmed over a long period at Edinburgh Zoo and used in my final work shown at my art college Degree Show. I showed it alongside the other two "Sleeping Douroucoulli" videos on iPad screens mounted on the wall.

  4. This is a Douroucoulli, or Night Monkey filmed at Edinburgh Zoo and used as a group of three videos in my final year Degree Show at Edinburgh College of Art shown on iPads.

  5. This is an Amur Leopard called Zane, filmed at Edinburgh Zoo. As few as 20 of these beautiful animals were thought to still exist in Russia in 2007 and so it is doubtful that there is still a viable wild population; they will only be found in captivity due to habitat destruction and poaching for their fur and bones.

This video is only about 2 seconds long but it has been manipulated to appear longer and to prolong the awe-inspiring feeling that we have when we maintain eye contact with these incredible animals. For my degree show I projected this video in a dark space with a staggered entrance and so it felt very confrontational and I believe many people were moved by it.

The sound is a recording I made of the inside of St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. I am very interested in medieval architecture as it was the fashion to create buildings that made one feel very small, and like they were surrounded by something that was much bigger, in a psychological rather than physical sense, than themselves. I believe this is the same feeling we have when a wild animal looks at us.
