The film opens with Juanita Perez deciding between two boxes on a standard actor audition form:
White or Hispanic? Um… both?
Juanita has left San Juan, Puerto Rico for New York City as part of a reality show that will document her quest for an acting career. With Carlos, her trusty cameraman, by her side, Juanita tackles the ups and downs of the New York acting scene. Juanita quickly encounters difficulty as a white Puerto Rican actor. The more she auditions, the more she discovers that people cannot reconcile her background with the color of her skin.
As the industry and society try to place Juanita in the appropriate box, she begins to lose her grip, struggling in vain to choose between two clashing worlds.
