1. Twice each year, Fr. Joe Campbell offers Mass on Norris Lake for locals and vacationers alike. A cove is selected and a large houseboat is carefully put into place and anchored. Next, long ropes stretch from one bank to the other allowing smaller craft to pull in and tied up. Fr. Joe then says Mass from the deck of the large houseboat. Some years, as many as 20 boats are present. People love to come to Mass in their swimsuits and people gush about Fr. Joe. It's a great example of what Pope John Paul II called the "Second Evangelism," where the Church reaches out to where people are and draws them into the holy mysteries. All this takes place in the Diocese of Knoxville with the permission of Bishop Richard F. Stika, the third Bishop of Knoxville.

  5. A prayer service was offered for Pope Benedict as well as for the College of Cardinals Tuesday morning. Liturgy of the Word was followed by a homily given by Cardinal Rigali. The entire student body and faculty of Knoxville Catholic High School was present as well as over many additional faithful. Rigali then arrived at the airport in Knoxville and was greeted by about 150 well-wishers as he departed for Rome to participate in Conclave to elect a new Pope.
