    ABOUT THE FILM:
The Untitled Black Lesbian Elder Project (UBLEP)-{working title} is a feature-length documentary film highlighting interviews with black lesbian elders in their 60s, 70s and 80s from across the United States situating the elders’ stories within a range of historical movements, spanning the decades between the 1930s and the 1980s. Featuring 8-10 profiles of elders, UBLEP will reveal rare images of black lesbian life and history through the use of accompanying archival footage and personal ephemera. UBLEP will also bring to light a number of black lesbian underground movements, solidifying a black lesbian presence within overall American black history.

Untitled Black Lesbian Elder Project primary mission is to ensure that the history of the black lesbian community is not lost amongst the new wave of documentary-based projects that are exploring the women’s rights movement in the United States as well as a range of black American movements. We also hope that by exploring the current lives of the women who laid the foundation of the current black lesbian community there can be some discussion and movement on how better to assist these women as they enter the later stages of their lives.

Spirit leaping from the screen... Healing bouncing around the room...

That is what is happening when we screen footage from the Mobile Homecoming. The Mobile Homecoming Film and Online Series along with the documentary about an affirming and inclusive Ifa Spiritual Community are coming along sooo well. They have already changed my life and I want them to change yours. After struggling for over a year I understand that the missing link is you. I need community support to get these projects done. I want community to support my shift from living un-sustainably as I get it done SLOW to living sustainably as I increase productivity and accountability.

This fundraiser is to support the liberation work of Julia Roxanne Wallace/Sangodare Akinwale using multimedia and art as a tool to connect to legacy. Collaborating with Sista Docta Alexis Pauline Gumbs, we facilitate transformation and the transfer of legacy through the Mobile Homecoming (MbHc), black feminist film school (bffs) and Queer Renaissance.

  4. This is a sneak peak at one of the Blues songs in the Mobile Homecoming experimental short film called "No Legacy Let Go" that Julia made ( and Alexis Pauline Gumbs produced). Julia is remixing the film. It is a Mobile Homecoming film based on stories from our MbHc Elders. Julia plays the piano and sings an excerpt of the song. Also, included is an excerpt of an interview conducted by Alexis.

The When We Free: By Every Means Media Campaign will fund the recording of this song with a full band and the completion of the experimental film. igg.me/at/whenwefreemedia/x/4590404
