On the night of 22nd November 2012, at least 79 women and children were raped in Minova, a small town in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Yet, it wasn't rebels from the M23 movement, but soldiers from the Congolese National Army. The region has become renowned for rape. Since the first violence erupted in the region in 1996, at least 200,000 people have been raped. But the real figure is thought to be much higher.

Fiona Lloyd-Davies gained unprecedented access to the rapists involved.

Sergeant "Mateso" is unrepentant. He's been a soldier since he was 8 years old and has fought in many different militias. He's proud of raping as many as 53 people, including children as young as 5 years old; he explains: "when we rape, we feel free".

Staff Sergeant "Boniface" is remorseful, a middle aged soldier of 14 years experience in the Congolese Army. He describes how his commanding officer raped a teenage girl in front of them before ordering them to "Go. Rape women."

Fiona also gained exclusive access to the Military Prosecutor of North Kivu, who was conducting an investigation. He gave his first ever television interview and described why he believes this case is vital, saying that there must be an end to impunity in Eastern Congo. He wanted to send a strong message to the army, that they must stop being perpetrators and start protecting civilians.
