1. studioroosegaarde.net - Lotus Dome by Daan Roosegaarde and his studio is a living dome made out of hundreds of ultra-light aluminium flowers that fold open in response to human behavior. When approached, the big silver dome lights up and opens its flowers. Its behavior moves from soft breathing to a more dynamic mood when more people interact. The light slowly follows people, creating an interactive play of light and shadow.

The graphic representations of the lotus flower on the walls, and the deep bass sound, transforms the Renaissance environment into a 'Techno-Church'.

  2. Zygote Interactive Balls is a fun installation conceived to shift the focus of a show, from the stage to the audience.

It was created to empower the crowd and to make them an active part of the show.

Zygotes respond to motion through human touch, or they can be wirelessly controlled by a central computer to create a dynamic light show.

Zygotes can also send data back to the computer and this information can be used to trigger sounds or visuals - graphics or video.

This video shows Zygote Balls at the opening of Sensation White in Amsterdam at the Ajax stadium with 40,000 revelers.

Zygote will be on a global tour with Sensation for the rest of 2009 and 2010.

  3. The FinRay structure is a prototype for an emotive wall. The emotive FinRay wall is composed of seven separate wall pieces, which can swing their body back and forth. Embedded in the skin of the FinRay are arrays of LED luminaries, which can be programmed individually to give personalized information or just to create an ambient luminescent atmosphere. While the primary synchronous behavior of the firefly is flashing light, the primary synchronous behavior of the FinRay is movement. In the installation, the FinRays are aligned in a row in 7 wall pieces, herein referred to as nodes. The synchronous behavior between the FinRay nodes contrasts with the motion produced by the presence of the participant. The result is a series of complex wave patterns that propagate through the FinRay structure as a whole. The propagating movements of the FinRay are expressed in the changing patterns of light and sound. The LED skins respond directly to user presence by glowing brighter when users are near, and glowing dimmer as they move away. The synchronous and asynchronous behaviors are reflected in the sound design as changes in intensity in response to the FinRay movement. Moments of synchronous behavior are represented by calmer sounds, while asynchronous behavior results more intense sound.

  4. studioroosegaarde.net - MARBLES by Studio Roosegaarde are large colored shapes which interact with people via sound, light and color.

Each MARBLE contains interactive technologies that instinctively respond to human proximity or touch, triggering changes of color and sound. MARBLES are also able to multiply these interactions between themselves, communicating with each other.

As dusk falls in the park, it appears to be interacting with more than just those who are passing by. MARBLES transforms the landscape into an interactive environment of light and play.
