Tuscaloosa Music Projects

  1. Blaine Duncan & The Lookers are a large part of Tuscaloosa's storied music scene, or at the least the one I'm most familiar with that's been developing for the last 20 years. The Lookers are an amalgamation of some of the city's best musicians, featuring members from Callooh! Callay! and others.

This video is an entry to South by Southwest alternative called Couch by Couchwest: a project / competition that accepted submissions of musicians playing on their couches while the other event continued on in Texas.

  2. [Live!] Is a web series I started with Well That's Cool.tv to showcase some of the live performances of local artists around town.

Southern Rock legend hailing from Birmingham, but calls Tuscaloosa his second home. Lee Bains was once a member of The Dexateens before creating the Glory Fires. They were in town a few months back and we managed to schedule him for an episode of Trivial Pursuits. He had only recently gotten back from his tour with the Alabama Shakes when we spoke to him.

After this show, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires packed up and continued to tour across the Southeast before starting the European tour in Norway, Sweden, and others.

If you'd like to listen to our conversation with Lee Bains III, you can visit the Trivial Pursuits podcast at the link here:

  3. [Live!] Is a web series I started with Well That's Cool.tv to showcase some of the live performances of local artists around town.

This one features Looksy, a group of guys that have really been blowing up in Tuscaloosa, as well as Birmingham and across the state. I first had them on my podcast Trivial Pursuits and quickly became fast friends with these guys.

  4. Alabama Spotlight was an early web series idea I created before [Live!] and Trivial Pursuits. We interviewed local bands and filmed them during live shows.

It's difficult for me to accurately describe their sound, so just watch the video and see for yourself.

Jake Gordin, the lead guitarist for the group was also on an early episode of Trivial Pursuits, if you'd like to listen to that conversation as well:

  5. American Freshman is a group of kids that are near to my heart. Tyler Marshall, Matt Bryant, and Sean Brooker are three of my best friends and they've been performing in different variations of this band since we were all in high school.

This is a biographical documentary I did early in my career to tell their story and listen to their music.
