My Great Dane Stella was diagnosed with Wobblers Disease when she was ten months old. She had an arthritic build up on her C2 vertebrae, as evidenced through an MRI. Some of the external signs of Wobblers in Stella were:
a) She would often collapse (starting with the back legs) when she first stood up.
b) If she wanted to go through a partially opened door, she would collapse before walking through.
c) Wood floors were awful – she could not walk more than a few steps without falling.
d) Turning corners, either direction, would cause her to slip and fall.
e) She could not go down more than a few stairs.
f) If she ran, after a few paces her back legs would tip off in one direction and drag/collapse in to the ground.
g) She could not jump in to the bed.
Cut to: no surgery (thank you Beverly Sturges at UC Davis for your recommendation), a brief period on steroids, daily exercise, and the love and support of her brother Buster (and me), she is able to CONQUER THE WORLD!!!
