Finally!!! The official music video for the first Single from my new Sinhalese album for 2009 is out!!!. Cant wait to hear from you guys on it. This song has the smooth r&b/neo soul feel that I wanted to bring to Sri lanka for 2009. I love the story line that prasad came up with as well. enjoy!!!
I came up with this melody in the summer of 2005 when my then girlfriend (now wife) left for the summer. I had seen her for the last time (probably for a few months) and was at Iraj's place jamming when this melody came to me.
A few days later the song was done with lyrics and Vasantha did a great job of writing to the concept. It will always be one of the most sentimental songs I ever did. Although there is some sadness in the song there is some hope as well. Devashee laid down some of the best harmonies you can ask for.
The song was a special song that I released a while back but I always knew I couldn't just let it die without a video. It deserved a video and what a video this turned out to be. It is the first Sri Lankan video to be shot in San francisco and Sri Lanka. The stories are so real and powerful based on significant events that impacted Sri Lankan culture and life in the past decade.
The first story is based on a brother that went to the war and made the ultimate sacrifice for our motherland. The video shows his sister holding onto the memories of her brother (the soldier) and his simple life back home.80,000 Sri Lankans have died in this conflict and it is my hope that we will see a lasting peace and a united Sri lanka soon.We should never forget the sacrifices of our brave soldiers who keep us safe....
The second is the story of a sister who sacrificed her youth for her family and went to Bahrain to earn money but never returned to see the fruits of her labor. It is well known that this is the fate of a lot of young Sri lankan women who have no option but to be the breadwinner for their family and are subject to much hardship including battery and deceit by their employees in the middle east...
The third is the story of a brother who saved his sister from the tsunami but lost his own life in the process. 37000 Sri Lankans lost their lives that fateful day and we should never forget the hardships their families face to this day...
Intertwined within the video is the relationship between my sister and I and me reminiscing about our childhood and the good times :) I think its one of the best videos I have even been a part of and want to thank Indika Wickramaratne for coming up with a great concept that complemented the emotions of the track. Also want to thank Pete Furia for making the shoot in San Francisco possible.

This was the first Single from my second Solo album Ranidu 2007. I wanted to really come out with the NY sound as I was living in manhattan then and was influenced a lot by rap. Hollee smokez was a rapper a collabod a lot with and he brought the real NY street flava to my track. I think this album and video pushed the envelope in Sri Lankan hip hop and that was my goal.
The track was included on Nihal's bombay bronx compilation in India and got the urban desi fans (that include more of the sri lankan diaspora as well as other south asian nations) really listening to sri lankan hip hop for the first time. There was an official launch in New York as well.
