Horses played a crucial role in the First World War, and millions were deployed with troops on the battlefronts and behind the lines. Here are some of them in action from the North West Film Archive collection. This short film was created to mark the return of the NT production of War Horse to The Lowry; and War Horse Close Up when Joey visits Manchester Central Library and Archives+ on 26th July.
Scenes from the first Alexandra Park Pageant, 27 June 1970 on a rainy day in Moss Side. Views of the procession through the park, a five-a-side football match, and Irish and Morris dancing demonstrations. A fashion show featuring traditional Indian dress is held in one of the marquees.
