1. Jon Butler was stuck in a job that, in his words, "was going nowhere." Working less than congenial hours with very little real opportunity, the future looked bleak. Then he met a girl, and well, you know the rest of the story, he fell in love—Smokin' Mad Love, that is.

Smokin' Mad Love is a longboard company in Grand Haven, Michigan, co-founded by Jon and his bride Blair, that's quickly getting the attention of industry leaders. They're doing some pretty innovative things with longboards—and bringing Smokin' Mad Love to the world.

A few production notes and props:
First let's just say that these kids can skate! And that they have no fear - wow! At one point, one of the skaters was clocked going almost 45 miles per hour downhill... crazy. Thanks to team Smokin' Mad Love for being such amazing talent!
We shot this over the course of 3 days, almost entirely in Grand Haven, MI, with a few shots in Muskegon State Park. We primarily shot on a Sony PMW-F3 with SLog to an external recorder with RED zoom lenses. A RED Scarlet served as B-Cam for the interviews, with a few GoPro shots mixed in. To get some of the action shots, we used various combinations of a Steadicam, Kenyon gyro stabilizer (super helpful), a resort car modified with a flat deck, and one Jeep Grand Cherokee!
