Daniela Zermeño and the dancers put incredible energy and discipline into their performances, but they also have to draw upon deep reserves of patience and goodwill as de facto public ambassadors for Santa Barbara and the Old Spanish Days Fiesta tradition.
This was filmed during the rehearsal for La Fiesta Pequeña at Santa Barbara's Old Mission. The Zermeño dancers have been practicing relentlessly for literally months. They're tired and they're nervous. Before they perform, Daniela and the dancers get themselves poised and centered with a group huddle and some prayers.
At the end of another sizzling performance on a hot Friday afternoon, all of the dancers participate in the Fina Fiesta for the patrons of Santa Barbara's El Paseo Restaurant during Old Spanish Days Fiesta 2013.
In December of 2013 the Zermeño Dance Academy performed their Winter Recital at Notre Dame School in Santa Barbara, California. We filmed with a single camera from a fixed position in the balcony. All the students in the dance academy got to perform onstage, various styles, with recorded music. This clip (12:23 long), shows the finale, with live musicians. and most of the advanced dancers.
