The Live Register

Migrants' voices and experiences in Ireland have historically been ignored and excluded from both public debate and the processes of legislative changes than affect them. "Absent Voices" takes a critical look at the proposed changes to prostitution laws in Ireland to see if this exclusion continues today.

We speak to representatives from Ruhama and the Immigrant Council of Ireland about "Turn off the Red Light", a national campaign backed by a wide range of civil society organisations that is lobbying for the introduction of Swedish style legislation in Ireland. We also speak to academics who are critical of the Swedish model and the manner in which the debate has been conducted, or who support the model but remain critical of the state's response to immigration.

This is the second episode of the second season of The Live Register, a volunteer-led topical affairs show on DCTV. Broadcast date: 19/9/13
