1. Reveling zeolite domains (in red) embedded in an inert matrix of binder and filler (in blue), conforming a catalytic particle. We have used confocal florescence microscopy with a staining molecule (fluorostyrene). The same catalytic particles have been tested in the methanol to hydrocarbon reaction, finding a direct correlation between the size of the zeolite domains with the intrinsic selectivity and deactivation of the catalysts.
