This speech was sponsored by the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency (ALMA) to help producers and processers improve their businesses.
This speech on value innovation is for two types of audiences: It is for owners and very high level management who look long term and want to innovate to make the competition irrelevant; and it is for process driven people who are focussed on improving process, such as project managers who are all about process, making this an excellent topic for them.
Innovation is not about invention. Innovation is all about new thinking and new applications. Henry Ford did not invent the automobile, Samsung did not invent the cell phone and Second Cup did not invent coffee. What they did do was provide new applications to products or services. That’s innovation. And who better to talk about developing innovation in business than Frank O’Dea, the celebrated entrepreneur who built several international successes on innovation. While most speakers on innovation are consultants or academics, few are people, like Frank O’Dea, who have actually done it; from coffee to air ambulance services to document destruction to affordable housing and more.
Frank O'Dea is the former homeless man who co-found the Second Cup chain of coffee stores and Proshred Security. He is the co-founder of Street Kids International and founder of The Canadian Landmine Foundation.
