In August 2014 NACL Theatre presented the culmination of a two-year experiment in creative placemaking: The Weather Project.
This multidisciplinary, outdoor spectacle involving over 75 participants (professional artists, community enthusiasts, and one extraordinary bee-keeping NASA scientist) took an audience of more than 500 on an odyssey through the atmosphere to focus attention on climate change and seek an answer to the question: "What can we do about it?" NACL Artistic Director Tannis Kowalchuk says of the project, "It has sparked a palpable transformation of our community... It's a work that has to continue."
The Weather Project is also the subject of an upcoming documentary by Brooklyn-based non-profit DecadesOut (decadesout.org) highlighting how the arts, working with science, can inspire community activism and awareness of the important climate change issues facing us today.
