1. This is an expedition involving the artificial study of plant life.

    Ten propagated flowers from a living plant. Each flower has a 'death state', until human interaction triggers its 'life state' and just for a brief moment, you may recapture the flowers in full bloom.
    When the viewer blows into the specimen jars, each flower begins a shape change. Blowing is the appropriate interaction as trees and plants grow on carbon dioxide.

    Materials - Flexinol (shape changing wire), recycled electronic components, specimen jars.

  2. ‘Specimen Tree’ is an interactive public artwork commissioned by Perth & Kinross, containing ‘flowers’ designed and developed by a group of local primary school pupils through a period of research and making workshops.

    The tree is ‘dead’ until human interaction makes it come ‘alive’ by blowing or touching, powered by solar panels. The videos illustrate the creative thought process of each pupil’s flower contained in the globes. The sculpture is installed at Glenearn Community Campus, Perth & Kinross.

    Materials: Mild Steel, polycarbonate globes, solar panels, copper wire, stainless steel, wire, flexinol, leds,electronic components.

    A collection of organisms as an interactive research. Each organism performs a morphing effect through interaction with living senses.

    The senses and their operations are based on theoretical studies by a variety of perceptions. Each sense is the physiological capacities within these organisms that provide inputs for perception.The inbuilt nervous system of each organism has a specific organ, dedicated to each sense, the mechanisms and capabilities are reflected in different organisms.

  4. The red (controller) paper senses how it is being folded and the white (output) paper follows. When the white paper is flipped over, blintz folding allows the paper to get up, wobble around, and flip over. The microcontroller and circuitry is on the body of the red paper and the white paper is actuated by shape memory alloy.
