  2. Flavor teamed with director Kerry Shaw Brown to tell the story of a young couple swept up in the Mayan apocalypse. Our computer-generated destruction, visual effects and color grading made the end of the world look beautiful. The beer was pretty tasty, too!

  5. Once again we got the pleasure of working with our friends at TimeBased Arts, this time on an epic spot for Vodafone. Director Sebastian Strasser of Radical Media had an ambitious vision to use the new Vodafone sim card as a catalyst to "power up" and transform a range of fun objects into new forms demonstrating the power of Vodafone's high speed network. From egg, to robot kitty, to buffalo, to...shark! That's where we step in....

The shoot took place in a pool with a practical shark fin on set. We cleaned up the plates and added in a CG shark. After the animation was done we put a lot of effort into tweaking the lighting effects such as caustics and fog to make the shark really fit into the scene. We also added in some small CG fish and a seabed to bring the ocean to life. There was no doubt that we had to make this look as believable as possible as not to deter from the wow factor of this commercial.

One of the greatest challenges with this sequence was the "hero" shark jump shot. We decided to go the full CG route for this shot. The toughest part was the water simulation with splashes coming off the shark and actor as they exited the water. Our extensive experience of working with liquid simulation in Naiad-Houdini was invaluable here having done several high end commercials and the feature film Kon-Tiki.

Another big challenge was keeping the hero character on the shark when it bursts out of the water. We decided to create a digital double for this shot, which is always a complex task but gave us the flexibility we needed to execute this epic shark jump smoothly.

We are never shy of a challenge and thoroughly enjoyed playing with sharks again!
