1. THEME:

S'mores!!!!!!! It doesn't get much better than setting around a fire with family and making s'mores. This was the kids first real time to be apart of the process and really get into the experience. It was so great to see the expressions on there face. The s'mores were glorious! My mouth is watering even now as I think about them.

    PROJECT:

Lately I have been having a blast taking and editing video with my DSLR. I love to explore that creative side of who I am and I love to create meaningful stories and capture great moments. So I was inspired by Mr. Grant Peelle to create 30 videos in 30 days (vimeo.com/26944350). My goal is to become a better story teller and force myself to really think through various techniques and pre-production process. With each video I will share the general theme I was after or what inspired me along with a few other notes I see fit to share.

    CHALLENGE:

The hardest thing was simply the fact that I just wanted to take part in the s'mores festivities and leave the camera alone. There was just too much fun going on to stay out of. So I could have gotten a bit more footage, especially since this project ended up being in the 4 minute area. But aside from that I like it. I think the end result really sort of takes you to the experience.

  2. THEME:

Projects with dad are great! And I love being on the roof. We got an early start Saturday morning to try and stope some pesky leaks that keep showing up with the rain. So with a few bucket's of colored stucco and latex gloves hopefully we did the job!

    PROJECT:

I love my job as a staff pastor and service program director at Palm Valley Church. I feel so blessed to serve along side of the people I do and serve God in the capacity that I do. CHALLENGE:
I just couldn't find the groove with this video for the longest time. I would get tracking with an idea and then end up not happy with it. That happened over and over again. I felt like I didn't get enough variety with my footage and the time lapse didn't turn out as expected (I left the auto focus on resulting in a pulsing time lapse). I had to just keep going back to the drawing board. Funny thing is I remember being pretty satisfied while capturing footage, thinking I would have plenty to work with. That just wasn't the case and I ended up really struggling to pull this one all together. So there are a few repeated shots here and compositions that I tried to be creative with rather than use entirely different pieces of footage.
In the end, there were definitely some shoots I really like and some edits that I think keep momentum going throughout. The song ended up being a tough choice and I think what I ended up with really helped add to certain sections of the project.

  3. THEME:
It just doesn't get much better than a nerf war in the office.

So here I am minding my own business yesterday working away and I get ambushed by some fellow co-workers equipped with a heavy arsenal of nerf guns with whistle blowing darts. Immediately I thought, BAM that's todays video!

Action shots! As you can tell in some of the initial shots I had a hard time keeping the camera steady. This project would have been awesome to have a steady cam with. So I had to make do with what I had, and the result wasn't terrible.
I really enjoyed working with a project that was meant to have more of a cinematic feel to it. It was different and I look forward to stretching my self with this type of project in the future. Making it feel more like an action film trailer. To do that full on would take more time than I am allowing myself with these projects but the ideas were definitely there.
Working with the multiple angles of the same scene was a unique challenge. Like the shot from the fridge. Definitely not perfect but not too shabby for a first.
And the cast was AMAZING! These guys rock!.

  4. THEME:

Summer is a great time for events at the church. Each summer our student ministries host a series of camps for the various age groups. They are always such a blast and great stories of life change come out of them. Something really cool happens when a young person steps out of their comfort zone and connects with God and others in a completely unique way. This past week has been the 3rd and 4th grade camp and these kids were a blast. It's great to see them have so much fun and to see so many of the sponsors investing into the lives of our kids. GO CAMP!

Too much footage? Is that a possibility? The goal of this piece was to be a short recap with a quick highlight of a personal story that will be shown to our congregation. So obviously I didn't want to make it very long, and wanted to keep everyone's attention. Adrienne is our children's pastor at the church and did a great job giving a brief overview and sharing a cool personal story from the week. So along with her talking I tried to show of some of the energy from the camp and let the story hold up against those clips.

  5. THEME:

I work and Palm Valley Church and one thing is for sure... we work hard! A lot of people may think, oh he works at a church, seriously? Is that work? Well it definitely is. But it's all worth it because I really believe in what I am giving myself too on a daily basis. So we work hard, but we PLAY HARD also. Nothing is better than getting up from behind the desk to challenge the fellow office mates to a competitive game of P.I.G. And when we do it gets pretty crazy. We seriously need to make time to play more often.

HA! The BIG challenge was to get footage of someone actually making a shot! Eventually I did, and actually ended up with quite a bit of good usable footage. Post was the real challenge. Finding the right music and editing a project that had so much action to it. It was just something new, trying to keep the tempo up and momentum of the game playing out through the video.

In finding the right track I eventually made up my mind and went with the music in the project. Unfortunately, the original track ended about 10 seconds too early. So I tried a few things to layer other tracks and blend the music to fade out at the end. What I really wanted though was to extend what was already going on. With some help of "boy genius" who will go unnamed I was able to accomplish just that. Straight up smoothness!
