The Holga might not be the worst camera in the world, but it’s close. Zero megapixels. No image processor. Plastic lens. But its lack of sparkle, its inherent basic-ness is also what makes it great. It is prized for its flaws and its character. Its amazing lack of precision and enormous light leaks give a Holga’s photos a hazy, dreamy quality. Its images look like warm memories. The Holga was Instagram 26 years before the iPhone.
Last winter, four Sugarloafers took this funky camera on a mission. They snapped roll after roll of quirky, blurry, hazy images to document a season of memories, and a mountain whose own soul might find kinship with that of the beloved Holga.
