The film was made in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and focuses on the importance of protecting the ocean, touching on issues such as bottom trawling, overfishing and pollution. It was released on World Oceans Day by a wide variety of Ocean organisations and journalists to ensure that the message of ocean conservation reached a wide audience.
For the 2011 TV industry promo's awards, I created an animation to open the event in London.
With the characters and brand established by Knifedge, I was allowed free reign with the main directive being - "give the audeince some fun".
I wrote and animated the piece, but sadly can't lay claim to the amazing voices which were done by Lewis Macleod, with music by tim oliver Tim Oliver and song lyrics by Andrew Barclay.
"The message had to be clear, in your face, inescapable, fast, urgent, exciting and sometime scary mix of images of global capitalism and world poverty...."
Definitely there is only few times that you receive an special projects like this one.
Nicolas Benac, Juan Gélas and Naïve Records approached me to create kind of raw, messy, chaotic, documentary and graphic-visceral expressive lyric video for Femi Kuti, the son of legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti.
An overlapping sequence of messages in a very fast, vibrant and recycled cut-ups yelling the message: "Poverty is winning the game" in a groovy combination with Femi´s song.
