Re-edit of this video taken from 16mm cine film (silent) with added sound effects and copyright free SmartSound music. The original edit is on YouTube with flawed visuals (de-interlace problem). This edit has had some sharpening added to help enhance the poor copy that was made from the original 16mm film.
The original film was shot on a 'wind-up' (mechanical spring) Bolex H16 Cine Camera. That explains why the filming is not continuous since the spring kept winding down at the most in-opportune moments! Cutaways had to be used in order to get some form of continuity in the edit. The Bolex had an attachment fitted to the front of the lens that allowed the fitting of a Dyaliscope 2.66:1 anamorphic lens. Also I wish I hadn't originally edited the 16mm film by splicing it together in the early days. A Sony SD Video camera was used to record off a white cine screen with the projector running at 12.5fps so as to minimise flicker, and projected in native 4x3 (squeezed). Then the video was imported to Avid Media Composer and a filter added to speed it up again, with a further one added to un-squeeze it to 2.66:1. More filters were added in the re-edit to try and sharpen the video and also attempt to colour correct it. One day, hopefully I will get round to re-videoing it with an HD or Blackmagic Cinema Camera (if I can afford it!). This video I believe is the only one in existence today in Cinemascope. Other people had early "over the shoulder" type video systems and I think it was ITV sports that videoed it for TV. I don't know how many VHS tapes exist of the event or whether the TV company even has it's own master copy.
