FlevOnIce (flevonice) was an outdoor ice speed skating track located in Holland. The distance for one lap was 5km, and the track snaked around a central lake taking right hand and left hand bends as it did so. The total length of the race was 200km. However, anyone who could stand up on ice skates was allowed to take part and many just skated for fun over less distance. Some in our group managed 100km. I however, only managed 50km before my legs seized up with cramp. There was a feeding station located near the start line and skaters could stop as many times as they pleased to take refreshments before continuing their skating. When finished they could go into the main building where there was a cafe to relax in and banter with the other competitors. Sadly FlevOnIce has now gone into administration and closed down. It is much missed and lamented.
