  1. According to human behavioral psychology, before we make any changes in our behavior, especially when it comes to our health, we have to change these three things first.

    Our State - is the frame of mind we're in. It will be what guides our reaction. There are times when my son pops into my office looking for something to do and if I'm in a playful mood, I'll stop what I'm doing and play around with him. Then there are times when I'm overwhelmed or frustrated with something and when he comes to play I snap at him and say something like can't you see I'm busy here.

    Depending on the state of mind I'm in; guides my reaction. Choosing more positive states guides more positive reactions.

    Our Story : What is the story we tell ourselves about why we can't do something? Having worked with thousands of people I can tell you everyone has a story of why they haven't made it. People have stories why they can't lose weight, they have stories why they can't have a good relationship or they have a story why they can't do something.

    We tell ourselves two kinds of stories. 1) A big problem we encountered that is usually someone else's fault or 2) To much time has passed and it's to late to do anything. Both stories release us from the burden of being responsible for the outcome.

    Find a more empowering story. Don't lie or make something up, find a way to make your story more empowering. Our brains believe what we tell it. If we say or think we are helpless we will always be right, but if we tell ourselves we can do better; well we can do that too. Change your story to empower you, not trap you.

    Our Strategy - Are you going about things the wrong way? Is there a better approach. When it comes to your health your going to get strategies that will absolutely help you. Most people know the strategies but their state and story are dis-empowering and they blame the strategy for not working.

    The instant I became a parent my story changed, my health, my food choices were no longer just about me. I had to be more aware (state) and attach my new life with a story that was in line with the life I wanted for my kids.

    How many people in this world are miserable and unhappy? Is it because their poor, or have a disease? Maybe so but how many people have those same issues and are doing unbelievably well physically, emotionally and financially.
    What's the difference? #1 winners are always resourceful, they may not have great resources but they are always resourceful. They find a way. And how do you do that? You align your state of mind with your strategy and the story you tell yourself is the glue that holds it all together.

    Each of these needs work together to keep our cells full of energy, free of toxins and our bodies functioning at its highest level. If we only focus on a few of these needs, like exercise & nutrition, we may be neglecting other areas of our health that need more attention to keep our bodies lean, fit and full of energy.
