What does it mean to align your mission? Simply it means that you have done your work around two things: clarified your vision and set a strategic course of action to attain your goals. That's the definition of mission: targeted vision being carried out with specific goals and measurables. When leaders fail to define the vision, or really get clear on where they are going, they fail to take the right action. This leads to not only ineffective management style, but stunted organizational culture and decreased productivity.
To get clear on your vision, spend some time mining out, rediscovering, or clarifying what you are most passionate about. Journaling, using a mastermind group, or visioneering can be helpful processes to help you focus, and get clear on your vision. Once you have gotten clear on your vision, now you are ready to map out specific, measurable, and incremental steps to achieve your goals. You must break the larger vision into benchmarks of success along the way. This is then your mission, to follow the roadmap you have laid out, because you are clear on where you are going, each benchmark reinforcing, and reminding you why your doing what you're doing: because it's what your passionate about and part of who you are.# vimeo.com/78551103 Uploaded 11 Plays 0 Likes 0 Comments
Many leaders are passionate! Passion without a clear purpose is wasted energy and does not produce innovative solutions. In order to amplify, that is harness and exponentially increase the impact, of your passion, you must attach it to practical solutions. Think of solutions as the fuel, and your passion as the muscle car barreling towards your magnitude of mission. Put the wrong gas in your high performance leadership engine and you won't be living to your full potential, but knocking and pinging, sputtering really, while the hybrid passes you; (no offense if you drive a hybrid... ;)
Mapping out practical solutions that are realistic, and simple is critical. You do not have to hit a home run, nor reinvent the wheel necessarily. What's differentiates you as a leader is your capacity, and ability to implement your passion and carry it out in a way that is in the most alignment with who you are. The solutions that work best are a cumulative total of small pieces, put together in a way that maximizes your leadership potential, so it's a best fit, with who you are.# vimeo.com/78553017 Uploaded 8 Plays 0 Likes 0 Comments
As a leader it is critical, no mandatory, that you possess the ability to infuse courage in others in order to empower them. The two must go hand in hand, empowering must be fueled by courage. Motivation and incentives only go so far if they come from outside ourselves. Courage is not the absence of fear, courage is the capacity to keep moving in spite of your fear. Leaders that are able to inspire in others the ability to "call deep (their) courage" as Dr. Brene' Brown states, empower others from the inside out. This builds resiliency and draws on internal conviction, and is intertwined with character.
In the wake of the leadership void that exists in every area of our society, people are craving leadership that calls them to a mission greater than themselves, and infuses them with the courage to 'take the hill' regardless of the gusts of oppositional wind in their face. Authentic leaders know how to do this because they have walked this road themselves, and that power of a transformed life resonates, and inspires.# vimeo.com/78554873 Uploaded 9 Plays 0 Likes 0 Comments
