  4. Pirates alley

My documentary discusses the rise of the Gulf of Aden piracy situation. The impact this has on the region and the international community. The shipping lane is one of the busiest in the world. The lane connects Asia, Africa and Europe together.
Living in a globalised society; means this shipping Lane invaluable. However, we also live in a polarised and increasingly marginalised society. If the problems on the land are resolved, the high seas will follow. Commercial and private citizens will be able to enjoy the Indiana Ocean, its surrounding countries, their cultures and histories in peace and harmony.
The name Pirates Alley and the Piracy is all a bio product of the fail state, civil war status.
The country has a deep history one that can not be ignored and gives us the ability to discuss the present and the future of the country, Somalia and its key neighbouring countries.
In order to understand the future, and the present chaos, we have to look at the past, as the past is all we know.
    Roger Middleton Chatham House
‘’The Horn of Africa is unique’’
The history of this shipping lane and the Horn of Africa is matchless.
My heritage is from the Horn Africa; my parents are economic migrants and not refugees. I therefore have the advantage of reflection based on my experiences as well as the experiences of family members; whom speak of the past and the luxury they once lived in.
How could the largest military force and the economic giant of the continent become a place of civil war, gangster culture and now extremism?
Pirates Alley covers these factors in detail and allows the viewer to draw their own conclusions.
When the Soviet Empire collapsed all Soviet countries collapsed, leaving some to think Somalia’s problems were peripheral and not important. Now with a one government, one world sphere headed agenda, two wars in close proximity of the region. The Horn of Africa is on the Unites States & the international communities’ hit list on foreign policy objectives.
Emerging powers such as China and Indian have major economic invested interests in the regions stability. This gives the area a further and more potent founded importance within the international arena.

A real life victim of piracies opinion on ’Pirates Alley’
    Stephen Collette
[Brother of hostage, Rachel & Paul Chandler released in Nov 2010]
‘’ The film was most interesting and I would like to say I admire your courage in making it. I was most interested in the earlier history which obviously I know virtually nothing about’’
“Also his war on Ethiopia must be the real reason for the on going misery that is currently experienced by so many…’’

‘’I was very interested in the comments made by Woody about the Chinese. Many commentators are frequently saying how they are having a positive effect on Africa in opening up the continent for trade and running Railways, roads, building Schools and Hospitals. I seem to remember this is exactly the same as the British were doing a century earlier and they were not doing it for the benefit it of the Africans nor are the Chinese today’’
