"Behind Perfection” offers a tiny glimpse of what goes on in the mind of a professional ballerina. The Royal Danish Ballet is an iconized institution. A world of great beauty, grace and fame. In the short film we learn that the ballerinas work extremely hard and must endure immense amounts of pain, sweat, tears and hard work to succeed or even stay in the ballet ensemble.
What happens when the curtain falls? Is the passion for the dance great enough to conquer the pain and mental stress? Meet 21 year-old Stephanie and Viktoria from the Royal Danish Ballet and hear them voice their opinion.
Director of the movie, Henrik Sorensen, says: “I chose to have the dancers work with white powder in some of the scenes of the film while they dance. I am fascinated by the concept of ‘movement’ and ‘form' and I think the powder enhances and underlines the great beauty, the sharpness and expression of each move the dancer makes. The usage of powder also breaks the illusion of it being an actual show in a poetic, beautiful and authentic way."
