It's taken a while but finally, here is the first upload of BIRDMASK Visuals. I first started work on these way back at the end of 2010. Like my Tasty Visuals, they started out with some miscellaneous illustration. The elements came together quite nicely and I started to form compositions out of them which became geometric, tribal bird faces. Like with most of my illustrations, I couldn't resist bringing it alive by animating it.
In their earliest form there was a lot less clips and they weren't in HD. A lot of elements didn't fit together well either so mixing between faces wasn't as smooth. In it's current form, the set is made up of 6 different faces, each one with 8 layers and 4 different clips per layer - making a total of 192 clips. These are all loaded into Resolume and triggered using Ableton and an iPad. See this video >> vimeo.com/50071434 on how I link audio with visuals. This video was made by recording a Resolume composition - all the clips being triggered live. This piece wasn't composited using FCP or Premiere! (or After Effects for that matter), it was all done live.
Unfortunately Geometric Porn App was rejected and suspended by Apple and Google.
Tons of blogs and pages have been filled by the people with complaints about these censures. In response to that I decided to give the APK file for Android to the users. Go to the official website to download the app into your Android device: http://www.geometricporn.com
Apple: Reasons for Rejection:
16.1: Apps that present excessively objectionable or crude content will be rejected.
Geometric Porn is Something abstract existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence. Visual geometry containing the non-explicit description of sexual organs or activity. Arising in the mind it intends to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings.
GeometricPorn is a project by Luciano Foglia, a multidisciplinary visual artist. He has been working in the design industry for over ten years focusing on interactive design, code based animations and music. His personal time is spent exploring new ways of expression in music and art, working from his studio in London, Hackney Wick.
Tendril is a relatively young studio and we are always looking for ways to experiment with the brand and its possibilities. We hope you enjoy this sound-synchronized logo reconstruction sequence. If you have seen our 2011 Showreel, you may recognize some of the animation, which was intercut there to form a visual backbone for the edit.
Once the animation was complete, we sought out the musical wizardry of John Black who initially worked to find a tempo that worked with the flow of the visuals, and then gradually built up the final track in layers, adding sound design elements to synchronize with the different geometric elements.
