Some the metro area’s leading creative spirits gathered recently at J&G Steakhouse in the W Hotel Washington for a private dinner personally prepared by Michelin chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.The discussion took place during six courses of the master chef’s gourmet creations and covered topics ranging from the area’s growing film, theater, visual and performing arts scenes to architecture, style and fashion. How can you visually represent climate change? That was the question posed by the CoolClimate Art contest, which urged artists to use their talents for advocacy. From hundreds of inspiring submissions, a panel of judges selected 20 finalists- and then let the public vote to decide the winners. The contest winners were announced at a recent panel at the Center for American Progress, which also underscored the importance of using art to influence public awareness.
Local artist Drew Nussbaum premiered his art for an exclusive group of guests in the Newseum's Knight Conference Center. A multisensory experience, the event combined great art with great food, music, and fashion - fashion blogger Aureta Thomollari selected six couture ensembles from her archives to accompany and complement the art. Nussbaum's colorful work draws from images of his childhood, which created a contemporary dream-like escape for the area's artistically inclined socialites.
