In an eastern neighbourhood of Beirut, Lebanon, a place with too many shades of grey for our own good health, there lives a splash of color in the form of a slight-fragile artist from Jordan.

Today, in Majzoub’s studio-home we find a shadow of his former self, a recluse, buried in his chair hunched over his sketchbook; still perplexed in a labyrinth of his own neuroses, charting the feelings and events of his life. He undergoes a self-examination without concession, tenderness or false modesty, trying to get to the bottom of the very same question that’s on our mind “who really is Rafik Majzoub?”

Now in his early 40s, Majzoub begins telling us his story from when as a 19 year old the untrained naïve artist lands like a tornado on the Beirut art scene in the mid 1990s looking for his place in the near-demolished, post-war art world.

For the first time, we dissect the anatomy of this cult-like figure in a web documentary, fleshing out Majzoub's persona, his naïve "raw" artistic style such as that of Brooklyn artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, coupled with the twisted and tormented mentality of post-war Lebanon.

His character, like his art, is abrupt, compulsive, humble, angry, sad, wise, hilarious, flawed, and often contradictory - which many find hard to swallow, nevertheless, will shake up ideas of a new consciousness across the Middle East over the next 20 years.

And unlike Basquait, Majzoub lives to tell us his story...
