COUNTY OF SALOP STEAM ENGINE SOCIETY
50TH ANNIVERSARY, AUG BANK HOLIDAY 2011
The Goold Family have been attending the 'Bishops Castle' rally since the late 1980s. We've enjoyed a warm welcome to the rally over the years, so, we were really excited the Society had invited the Sentinel Club to attend this anniversary event.
Justin as driver, with Boot and Dawn swapping out for firing halfway. The journey from Bath to shrewsbury is apporx 140 miles and took us 5 and half hours, with one waterstop. Over the course of the weekend most of the family were able join in the fun.
The rally was a huge success, the rain was limited and the crowds flooded in. A good selection of steam engines and other vintage vehicles were on show. To top off an enjoyable weekend, we were awarded the ‘Best Waggon’ cup, presented by the mayor of Shrewsbury.
Thankfully our return journey went well... so no ‘new’ major repairs to do this winter!
As promised I attach some snaps of the DG6 taken last night. My new boiler from Julian Hopper has passed its hydraulic test at 415psi & is being delivered by him & Tony Baker on Saturday (31st July). All I have to do is catch up on 4 years of maintenance & painting in the next two days.
