  2. I was asked to create the opening sequence to this hilarious comedy in which an actor slips into the double role of the late Erich Honecker, the leader of the crumbling German Democratic Republic. after watching the rough edit of the movie I thought it would be important to see the real protagonists of that time before unfolding the story. I play with looping of motion that was very common in the 80ies. I remember that back then on TV it became very popular to treat footage of soccer players like this, in Germany known as ”Fußball Ballet”.

  4. NAPOLA was the german short term for National Political Institutes of Education. During the Dictatorship of Adolf Hitler the goal of these schools was to raise a new generation for the political, military and administrative leadership of the Nazi state. Therefore, life at the NPEAs was dominated by military discipline.

This ice-cold scenario, which also stands for the mercilessness of the Nazi leadership made me wanna create something around Ice for the ending title sequence. A friend introduced me to german artist Carsten Nicolai, who had in his work focused on the science of Ice crystals, he actually revealed his fellowship with a community mainly based in California and Japan focusing on growing and collecting of ice crystals. He showed me the tricky scientific lab setup that would allow me to grow and film ice crystals. the haunting music of composer Angelo Badalamenti, best known for his collaboration with David Lynch perfectly accompanies the imagery...

  5. The story based on a novel by A. L. Kennedy is a dark and mysterious and sometimes painful journey but the main characters find each other at last. This closing title sequence is a good example were the ending of the movie just has to dissolve to an uplifting, promising, positive white. I was anxious when presenting this idea to the director and the producers but very happy when they liked it.
